I recently downloaded a wonderful cdev called "hierDA." It is version .9984 (AKA "DA menuz"). According to the creator, I have been misprouncing its name for years. He says "here-duh." The creator doesn't want his name known, so he goes by "jbx" (I don't know how to pronounce that either.).
Anyway, the file has Paul Mercer's ShowINIT icon booted at StartUp. However, this ShowINIT is locked! That means you cannot get rid of it on startup. If you try to remove it with ResEdit, as I did, the program bombs. I have a custom StartUp Screen that I am particularly proud of, since I'm the creator. Every time I started my Mac, there was this little icon fouling up the corner of MY screen. Maybe some of you are also experiencing this little vexation.
Sven Axelsson's INIT "NoICON" is a nice addition to prevent ALL icons from showing up at startup. However, you may have a special icon that you want to be there or must be there at startup as an alert.
Well, here's the answer to getting rid of the hierDA startup icon without disturbing all others and still have the program function. All you have to do, is make sure this installer program is on your desktop (not in a Folder), and that DA menuz (AKA hierDA) is in your System Folder. Then simply pull down the Installer menu and click on "Remove StartUp Icon." Then close the application, and reboot. 'hierDA' will now boot up without crashing, and the ShowINIT won't show up.
If, at a later time, you would like to have your startup icon back on your screen, I have added a Re-Install menu select item to accommodate all. Really want to thank jbx, whoever you are, for your great cdev, but kindly stay off MY lawn.

This installer application was written for my own sheer enjoyment and mental stimulation (and I hope yours, too.). I have no computer training, but have written this using THINK's Lightspeed Pascal 2.01, and learned Pacal using THINK's "Just Enough PASCAL." [I'm sure that's just what I got, but don't give up, you fledgling Mac programers, it can be mastered.] The other great helper was Prototyper 2.0. I highly recommend it to all.
